UPDATE: Russia may resume air travel with Egypt if Cairo guarantees safety
(Adds details in last paragraph)
MOSCOW, Jan 25 (PRIME) -- Moscow and Cairo are interested in resumption of air services between the countries, but air travel may be resumed only if Cairo guarantees safety of Russian tourists, Sergei Naryshkin, speaker of the State Duma, the parliament’s lower chamber, told reporters on Monday.
“Our sides are interested in full resumption of relations, economic relations, including tourism and air services between our countries. But it can be made only if safety of our citizens is fully guaranteed,” he said.
Moscow ceased flights to Egypt in early November 2015 after a major Russian plane crash over the Sinai Peninsula. Russia believes that the plane was likely brought down by a bomb.
Deputy Transport Minister Valery Okulov told reporters that the ministry may develop within a week additional measures needed to resume the air travel.
